Raina: Chapter 12

If anyone had ever told me that I could be this happy, I would’ve told them they were crazy. Connecting with Joker again after all these years was amazing, but the way everything had clicked and escalated even more since last weekend when I stayed with him and we made love for the first time, was unbelievable. We’d made love several times, until I was sore, before he ended up taking me home late on Sunday. He wasn’t thrilled about it. He wanted me to stay with him, but I had Belle and Granddaddy to worry about. He seemed to understand, and he didn’t make me feel bad about it.

Every night since, he’d come over for dinner and spend time with us. After Belle would go to bed, we’d sneak off to be together at his house for a few hours then he’d bring me home. The only nights we didn’t were the last two. He’d stayed until she went to bed then we went to my room. I had felt weird at first, but he told me he’d asked permission first, so he could be sure it wouldn’t be disrespectful. Granddaddy would just smile and tell us to go when we asked him if he was alright to watch Belle the nights I left with him. I knew this couldn’t go on forever. We’d have to figure out a better plan. All I knew was neither of us wanted to be apart.

Joker insisted he had a plan. He was adamant we move into his house at the compound, including Granddaddy. I was hard pressed not to agree, even if it seemed insanely fast, but I didn’t want to take him away from his home. He’d lived here for the past fifty years. Joker kept reminding me it wasn’t fast. We’d been falling in love with each other for close to twelve years. When I thought of it like that, we were way behind.

Tonight after work was the start of the weekend. We had plans to talk about the whole living arrangements. Speaking of work, I’d floated through the week with a smile on my face. Connie and Hana asked me what put it on my face and if Joker was the cause. All I did was smile harder. Even Cray had asked and grinned when I wouldn’t say. The only ones who didn’t were Leif and Tessa. They were still acting squirrelly. I ignored them. I guess they weren’t my friends after all. It was their loss.

The plan was tonight I was going to hang at the clubhouse and stay the night, then tomorrow we’d bring Belle and Granddaddy over to spend time with us. One of the things we’d done this week was go furniture shopping together. Joker insisted I had to help choose what would go in our house. Every time he said that, it made me warm and happy.

And it wasn’t just me who went shopping. He insisted Belle had to come too, so she could pick out her bedroom furniture.
